The sweetness of neotame is similar to that of aspartame, without bitterness or other aftertaste. The sweetness of neotame is 8000-10000 times that of sucrose, which is 8000 times that of sucrose at 5% sweetness and up to 10000 times that of sucrose at 2% sweetness. According to the GB2760-2011 Hygienic Standard for Food Additives (provided by Zhang Le'an), the use of neotame is limited to various types of food and beverages, and the dosage should be used in moderation according to production needs. Generally, beverages have a concentration of 8-17mg/L, while food products have a concentration of 10-35mg/kg.
As a functional sweetener, neotame has no adverse effects on human health and plays a beneficial regulatory or promoting role. As early as December 1998, the application for low temperature use of neotame as a food sweetener was filed in the United States. It was approved for use in all foods and beverages by the US FDA on July 9, 2002. The EU officially approved its application on January 12, 2010, with the designated code E961. The Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China officially approved Newsweet as a new food additive variety in Announcement No. 4 of 2003, applicable to the production of various types of food.
